About AsanaDrift
AsanaDrift started on a cracked hardwood floor in a converted garage studio, not in a boardroom. We're a small team of yoga teachers, physical therapists, and recovery-obsessed athletes who got tired of buying gear based on glossy marketing photos and influencer codes, only to find the mat slipped, the roller cracked, or the block crumbled after three weeks. So we built the resource we wished existed: a place that tests yoga and recovery products the way real practitioners actually use them, and tells the truth about what's worth your money.
Our Founding Story
AsanaDrift was founded in 2021 by Maren Ellison, a certified E-RYT 500 yoga instructor who spent a decade teaching in studios from Portland to Austin before an old rotator cuff injury pushed her deep into the world of foam rolling, percussion massage guns, and rehab-focused stretching tools. Frustrated by review sites that seemed to recommend whatever paid the highest commission, Maren partnered with her longtime friend Devon Cole, a doctor of physical therapy specializing in sports recovery, to build something different. What began as shared notes in a spreadsheet — comparing grip on eight different mat brands, tracking how long a massage gun battery actually lasted — grew into a full editorial team dedicated to honest, detailed, practitioner-tested reviews.
Today, AsanaDrift is read by beginners buying their first mat, seasoned yogis chasing better alignment tools, and weekend athletes trying to recover smarter between training blocks. We remain independent, small, and stubbornly hands-on with every product we cover.
How We Review and Select Products
Every product featured on AsanaDrift goes through a structured evaluation process before it earns a spot in our guides. We don't accept payment for placement, and we disclose affiliate relationships clearly wherever they exist. Our process includes:
- Hands-on testing: Every mat, block, strap, roller, or recovery device is used in real practice sessions and daily recovery routines for a minimum of two to four weeks before we write about it.
- Category expertise: Yoga props are evaluated by certified instructors focused on grip, density, alignment support, and durability across hot yoga, restorative, and power vinyasa styles. Recovery tools are assessed by our physical therapy contributors for build quality, intensity range, ergonomics, and actual physiological benefit.
- Comparative benchmarking: We test similar products side by side rather than in isolation, so our star ratings and rankings reflect genuine relative performance, not one-off impressions.
- Longevity checks: Where possible, we revisit products after three to six months of use to see how they hold up, noting wear, odor retention, battery degradation, or seam failure.
- Real-world price tracking: We monitor pricing across retailers so our recommendations reflect genuine value, not just launch-day hype.
What Makes AsanaDrift Trustworthy
We know the yoga and recovery product space is crowded with sponsored lists and recycled marketing copy. Here's how we do things differently:
- No pay-to-play placements. Brands cannot buy a spot in our top picks or influence our ratings.
- Transparent affiliate disclosure. When a link earns us a commission, we say so plainly, and it never changes our verdict.
- Credentialed reviewers. Our core team includes certified yoga instructors and a licensed physical therapist, not anonymous content writers.
- Updated regularly. We revisit and update our guides as products change, get discontinued, or are replaced by better versions.
- We buy most of what we test. The majority of products reviewed on AsanaDrift are purchased at retail price by our team, just like you would.
Our goal is simple: help you spend your money on gear that actually supports your practice and your recovery, not on whatever has the best marketing budget this month. Thanks for trusting AsanaDrift as part of your journey — on and off the mat.
